We’ve recently started making home made bread and you’d wouldn’t belive the kick the kids get out of it each time the bread comes out of the oven. Little tip here, you might want to cook a couple of loaves at a time as the first one usually gets devoured within 30 minutes of coming out of the oven.
And the kicker is just how cheaply you can have amazing fresh bread – I’ve worked it out to cost just about 50 cents a loaf – a similar bread at your bakery or supermarket would cost at least $3.50 – so you’re saving at least $3 per loaf of bread – and you’re in total control of everything going into your bread. Want organic flour? – go for it. Add nuts and seeds – don’t stop – it’s all you.
My fave Ciabatta bread is a simple no-knead recipe that is made without a bread making machine or stand mixer. It’s dead easy and the ingredients are as follows:
4 cups bread flour (3 1/2 cup white and 1/2 cup wheat) *You can also use all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon yeast
2 cups warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt (I use quality sea salt)
From start to finish the bread takes 20 hours to make – this may sound long – but it’s just a matter of mixing the ingredients and letting the dough sit.
It’s dead easy, you’ll be hooked. Happy Ciabatta bread baking…try and save some..for me!
